8/3/24
When we first arrived at our villa, I wondered where the birds were. But as we’ve settled in, I now realize I wasn’t waking up early enough to hear them. As we’ve acclimated, I’m more in sync with the natural rhythm of waking before the sunrises. I find my quiet time either on our balcony listening to the waves and gazing at the horizon of the Atlantic or on the rooftop. This is likely the only time in my life when I’ll have the opportunity to live along the ocean, so I’m taking full advantage of appreciating it.
So I’m now waking up with the birds. Listening to the stillness before the early morning chatter among the songbirds. Yesterday, I was meditating on the porch, eyes closed just listening to the waves, the wake-up calls of the songbirds and I noticed one bird sounded particularly close. Mike woke up, walked into the bathroom, and there it was…. A songbird pitched on the bathroom sink faucet. It found its way in through the open bathroom window (no screens here). Hmm…ok, maybe that’s a bit too close for comfort. So after it did its morning duty in our sink (for REAL), it simply flew back out the window and carried on with its day. Needless to say, we are now closing the bathroom window.

Ha ha! Nature moving in!
